What is Reiki:
A practitioner of Reiki uses a method of touch to work with a person’s energetic flow to promote healing. This practice can also be called “laying on hands”. It is said that a Reiki Master uses a force of higher intelligence to guide the healing energy and the process of the session.

By manipulating the life force energy in the patient/client, it can be transformed or made better. When this is achieved, healing of the body, mind, and spirit can begin and be achieved. It is considered an energy medicine and practitioners claim that Reiki heals in ways that are hard to describe or explain.

Origin:
The study of Reiki was founded by Usui-Sensei of Japan in the early 1920s. It has been said that Usui-Sensi was gifted Reiki while on top of a mountain in a fasting and meditative state. He then tried the practice on himself and members of his family and was able to cure ills. He moved to Tokyo and started teaching it in 1922 (Rand, 1996). It was brought to Hawaii in 1938 by a former student of Usui-Sensei and later made it to the mainland.
