What is Homeopathic Medicine:
Homeopathic medicine is based on three principles: like cures like, minimum dose, and single remedy. The first principle of like cures like is the foundation of the practice. Homeopathic medical practitioners believe that by treating ailments with substances that are similar to the disease the person is expressing, that person can be cured. A common homeopathic remedy would be chamomilla, aka chamomile tea that is used to treat insomnia. All homeopathic remedies used in the United States are FDA approved.

Origin:
Homeopathy was founded by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) in Europe. It made its way to the US in 1903. From there, some of its remedies were used by allopathic physicians. Since the early 1900s, Homeopathy has become very popular. In 2002 it was estimated that the number of individuals using Homeopathy had risen 500% over the previous 7 years (Irvine, 2006).
