What is Ayurveda:
The word "Ayurveda" comes from the root words ayru (meaning life) and veda (meaning science or knowledge). Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine practiced today. Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners use herbs, exercise, proprietary ingredients, and lifestyle recommendations to heal its patients. The main concepts of Ayurvedic medicine include universal oneness, the body’s physical constitution (prakriti), and life forces (dosha). Furthermore, there are three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). These doshas express mental, physical, and emotional characteristics and are derived from the five elements. Good health, according to Ayurveda, is the unique balance of one’s mind and body with the environment.

Origin:
Ayurveda originated in India more than 3000 years ago and is still the number one medical system used in India. It is thought to be the oldest medical modality in the world that is still in practice today. In recent years Ayurveda has made its way to the US and today there are currently over 30 colleges or schools that teach Ayurvedic Medicine.
